Rekha Gupta, a veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and MLA from
Shalimar Bagh, has been appointed the next Chief Minister of Delhi. Born on July 19,
1974, in Julana, Haryana, she is a prominent Indian politician belonging to the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP). With robust educational qualifications and a desire for public
service, she has evolved into one of the leading figures in the politics of Delhi,
particularly during the recent elections when she self-nominated herself as a Chief
Minister candidate.
Rekha Gupta’s transformation from student leader to experienced politician
demonstrates her dedication to public service. Once a former mayor of North Delhi and
BJP’s top strategist, she won by a commanding margin in 2025. Through her governance
agenda, empowerment of women, and education, she becomes a firm leader that
forms the shape of Delhi politics.
Rekha Gupta was brought up in a politically inclined family steeped in the ideology of
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). She studied at Delhi University and acquired a
Bachelor of Commerce degree. Her academic progress was then marked by
postgraduate degrees in management and arts, which enabled her to have the skills to
follow her future political career path.
Following her success in student politics, Rekha Gupta shifted to municipal politics.
She won as a councilor from Uttari Pitampura (Ward 54) in 2007 and again in 2012.
Being a councilor helped her address local issues and carry out community
developmental activities.
Rekha has held different important positions in the BJP. She was the General Secretary
of the BJP Delhi state unit and is currently a member of the BJP’s National Executive.
Additionally, she worked actively with the BJP Mahila Morcha, which is responsible for
women empowerment and social issues.
