Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday lashed out at his Bengal
counterpart, Mamata Banerjee, in response to her remarks yesterday evening regarding
the deaths of 30 individuals in last month’s Maha Kumbh stampede. Ms Banerjee
attacked Maha Kumbh as a ‘Mrityu’ (‘death’) Kumbh.
Addressing the UP Assembly in a rage, Chief Minister lashed out at Ms Banerjee, stating
that more than 56 crore individuals have made a ‘holy dip’ in the ‘sangam’ since the
Kumbh started and condemning her for having raised “baseless charges. That are
playing with the faith of these 56 crore people”
Adityanath also expressed his condolences to the families of the 30 who died during the
January 29 stampede, and others who lost their lives in road accidents while they were
on their way to Prayagraj for the religious event. “. The government is with them. We will
assist them in all possible ways.”
But how is politicizing this acceptable?” the Chief Minister asked, as he also asserted
“good fortune” to the state BJP government’s “chance to be a part of the Maha Kumbh of
the century”.
“The nation and international community have engaged. Disregarding all the fabricated
campaigns,” he added.
